Playgroups
SMMC offers a large variety of age based and special interest playgroups to our membership.

Upon joining SMMC and signing up via our online forum (BigTent), all members have the opportunity to sign themselves up for a playgroup and/or special interest group.  All members can search the list of open playgroups or special interest groups within Big Tent to find one that works for them!.

If you’re a new mom, or new to playgroups, you probably have lots of questions about how a playgroup works. Playgroups typically meet once per week with the children. It’s up to the group to decide when and where it is most convenient to meet. When babies are little and the weather is rotten, meeting at someone’s house is ideal. Once the weather improves it’s great to spread blankets out at a park and enjoy a picnic. Each group develops their own "style" and "feel" and determines what works well for its member over time. It may take a bit of time for the group to completely gel and figure out a schedule that works. The schedule will likely change as the children get older.

We believe a key factor to success in a playgroup is having a designated playgroup leader. The leader is someone who can help keep the group organized and the momentum going forward. The expectation is not that this person schedules each playgroup but rather, helps the group determine what works well.  The playgroup leader also acts as a liaison between their playgroup and the SMMC Board to make sure their group is up to speed with the club as a whole.
