Why now in 2025, when it is no longer in vogue to have a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) presence, is the Southern Marin Mothers’ Club choosing to not only keep our commitment to DEI but double down on it with intentionality? It’s simple, we aren’t willing to eliminate inclusion and belonging.
We're examining every aspect of SMMC from a DEI lens. SMMC is weaving DEI into the fabric of our organization by creating a culture of community where every family feels seen, heard, safe, and valued. Meaningful change comes when we see our common humanity as parents who want the best for our kids, and also celebrate our families' unique cultures, races, traditions, religions, and values. Through listening, learning, and understanding each other as adults, we teach our children to do the same. They don’t always do what we say, but they always do what we do.
We aim to continuously create an environment where diverse voices are lifted. Where programming and events are inclusive. Where equity is prioritized. Our board is committed to being responsive to our community’s evolving needs. We believe that together we can create a welcoming, respectful, and joyful environment for all families through the acceptance of everyone. If not here, then where?
Stay tuned for the next DEI Spotlight to see our DEI mission statement come to life through action!
