DEI MIssion Statement

The Southern Marin Mothers’ Club is committed to weaving diversity, equity, and inclusion into the fabric of our organization by fostering a culture of community where every family feels seen, heard, safe, and valued.

We believe that meaningful change begins at the grassroots level, and we actively partner with our Affinity Groups to listen, learn, and understand their unique needs and experiences. Through open dialogue and consistent support, including a dedicated DEI presence on the SMMC board, we aim to elevate our community’s diverse voices and ensure inclusive programming and events. At the same time, we work closely with our board to build DEI awareness and accountability within our leadership, ensuring we are responsive to the evolving needs of our community.

Together, these efforts are rooted in our shared goal of cultivating a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all families where we celebrate our families' unique cultures, races, traditions, religions, and values.

We aim to continuously create an environment where diverse voices are lifted. Where programming and events are inclusive. Where equity is prioritized. We are committed to being responsive to our community’s evolving needs. We believe that together we can create a welcoming, respectful, and joyful environment for all families through the acceptance of everyone.

AFFINITY GROUPS

At the Southern Marin Mothers’ Club, our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goes beyond intention—it’s about action. It is our aim to uplift voices within our community and foster meaningful connections among our members. One of the most impactful ways we are doing this is by supporting and amplifying our Affinity Groups.

These member-led groups provide spaces for families with shared identities, backgrounds, or lived experiences to connect, celebrate, and support one another. They are central to creating a more inclusive and welcoming SMMC for all families.

We currently have the following member-created Affinity Groups in our SMMC community:

  • Asian Families

  • Black+ Families

  • Catholic Families

  • Jewish Families

  • Latino Families

  • LGBTQIA+ Families

  • Multiracial Families

  • Special Needs Families

  • South Asian Families

These groups are open to all SMMC members whose families identify with these communities. Whether through playdates, discussions, cultural celebrations, or finding solidarity in shared experiences, the Affinity Groups help nurture the sense of belonging that our SMMC families deserve. Our role is to provide resources and build relationships with these groups, and to learn how they would like to be supported by SMMC.

Interested in joining or starting an Affinity Group? Visit the SMMC website, WhatsApp Community or reach out to the DEI Committee at
